XCA is an open-source Windows utility created by Christian Hohnstaedt that concentrates on the full life-cycle management of public-key infrastructure objects. Positioned in the security / encryption category, the program offers a graphical front-end for the OpenSSL library, enabling administrators and developers to create, sign, revoke, and export X.509 certificates, certificate-signing requests, RSA, DSA, and elliptic-curve private keys, certificate revocation lists, and PKCS#11-compatible smart-card tokens from a single interface. Typical use cases include generating server and client TLS certificates for web, mail, and VPN services, building private certificate authorities for corporate intranets, preparing code-signing and document-signing credentials, exporting credentials in PEM, DER, and PKCS#12 formats for import into routers, firewalls, or mobile devices, and maintaining CRLs to invalidate compromised certificates without relying on commercial CAs. Since its first appearance the project has reached eight stable releases, of which version 2.9.0 is the current milestone, bringing updates such as enhanced EC curve support, improved template management, and streamlined database operations. All historical revisions remain accessible for environments that require long-term compatibility. The software is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources (e.g. winget), always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
