NetworkOpenedFiles is a lightweight Windows utility developed by NirSoft that allows administrators and power users to inspect, in real time, every file on the local computer that has been opened remotely by another workstation on the same network. The program belongs to the Network Monitoring category and is currently offered in a single stable release, version 1.63. After an instant launch without installation, the main window enumerates each open session and populates a detailed grid that includes the full path of the accessed file, the remote user name, the originating computer name (visible on Windows 7, Server 2008 and newer), the type of permissions granted (read, write, create), the number of file locks held, the file owner, size, attributes, creation time and last write time. This concise overview makes it easy to spot documents that are left open overnight, identify clients that maintain excessive locks, or verify which user has a particular spreadsheet locked for editing. Because the data can be sorted on any column and exported to HTML, XML, CSV or tab-delimited text, the tool is frequently used during server maintenance to generate closure reports, during security audits to detect unexpected access patterns, or during everyday help-desk work when a file cannot be renamed or deleted because it is supposedly “in use”. Command-line support further enables scheduled capture scripts that feed the list into SIEM systems or custom log analyzers. NetworkOpenedFiles is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always delivering the latest version and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
